Owning A Bird is a very enjoyanle and rewarding experience, but with it comes alot of responsibility. You can't just get a bird and leave it alone all day like a fish.
Birds need companionship every day, and if you can't be there most of the day, your single bird will get depressed, so you'll need a pair BUT double the animals, double the responsibility.

How Much Money do you have in your budget for bird care?
Your Budget needs to be able to handle not only the cost of the bird. but the initial cost of housing and supplies.

How Much Time Do you have in your Schedule to care for a bird?
It takes a great deal of time to care daily for a bird, even a small parakeet so you need to be sure you have all the time for being a companion and a house keeper for your pet.

How much time do you think bird care takes each day?
Again, you'll need to consider together time along with chores.

How much time do you spend away from home each day?
If you spend most of your day out of the house, you'll need to get a pair of birds to keep each other company, birds are very social animals. BUT make sure you even have the time to clean up and care for 2.

How many children are in your home?
If you have children, you'll need to supervise them at ALL times when they are around the bird, especially if they are under 10 so you ensure no one gets hurt, And do not let any child handle a bird until it's tamed, it WILL bite if stardled.

How many other pets do you have?
If your home consists of any sort of other pets dogs, cats, bunnies, etc. You'll need to think things through, Birds may hurt defensless animals like rabbits by accident with their nails or beaks,
but are easily severley injured by a dog or cat.
If you have a ferret, it is best for everyone if you wait on a bird.
Indications Of A Healthy Bird

*Bird has bright eyes and no nasal discharge

*Bird sits upright

*Bird doesn't appear thin or weak

*Bird's legs and vent are clean

*Bird's feathers are smooth and free of bald patches

*Bird is interedted in food and seems to eat well

*Bird is active and moves easily
(If the bird you are interested in is napping, try coming back later or wait until they are awake to moniter their regular behavior to ensure they are healthy.)
Questions to ask when purchasing a bird from a pet store or breeder:

1. How long have you had the bird?

2. Where did the bird come from before you owned it?

3. What does the bird eat?

4. What's its normal activity level like?

5. Has the bird been seen by an avian veterinarian recently? If so, does it have any health problems I should know about?
